Short statement about your reasons for seeking election to the Board of Education: Education is a purposeful priority for how my husband and I have decided to raise our children. Enriched learning is our hobby, our vacation, and our motivator. When I was called to serve our community there was no question that the area I am most motivated to advocate and champion is the academic achievement of our youth.
On April 2nd, voters may cast a vote for two open seats on the Board of Education. Four candidates are running for a three-year term. Voters can choose to vote for NONE, ONE, or TWO candidates.
To help elect Melissa Wilson to serve on the Board of Education, some voters will choose to only cast a single vote for the two open seats. This tactical voting strategy statistically increases the chance that Melissa will be elected.
This school board election, for me, is about supporting the future of youth academics and learning. That is why you will find this campaign’s yard signs designed and created by students in the district.
If you are interested in a sign please let me know in PM. If you’d like a blank sign for your student to decorate - we can do that too.
Campaign Signs have a significant impact in pop culture art, communications, and history. We have enjoyed taking FZ students on this campaign to learn and engage with us! Email your address to wilson4zumwalt@gmail.com for a sign. In the email please let if you would like a blank sign or a pre-made sign.
Q1: I did not see candidates on the ballot that represented me. I wanted to vote for a parent with children actively involved in the district that were impacted by Board of Education decisions today and for years to come. I was inspired to run for Fort Zumwalt board to represent parents with children in elementary, middle and high school right now who need leadership that can empathize with the challenges they are facing today.
In 1920 the 19th Amendment was ratified to remove blockers keeping US citizen women from voting. Women fought for suffrage often wearing sashes campaigning for the right.
I paid respect to this honor last night with a campaign ribbon.
My email is wilson4zumwalt@gmail.com. I am happy to receive and listen to your concerns about our community.
I will respond to emails, but please be patient, we are out campaigning and answering questions at the polls.
I chose to accept $0 special interest money to fund this campaign. To ensure 0 special interests could own my Board vote. I appreciate you sharing my name with friends.
Below are some of the responses I share to questions coming in via email.
The lack of discipline, drugs, and bullying are the TOP topics I have heard during this campaign. These topics are why I am campaigning to focus on the safety of our schools.
Students should not be vaping or using substances on campus
Bathrooms should not be safe havens to bully, intimidate, vape and/or use substances on campus
Discipline should be enforced and not just threats
Literature Availability: This is a hot national topic. But let's localize. Concerns around books were brought to the 2021-2022 FZSD Board of Educators. Parents in our local school district were very active to share their concerns 2 years ago now. The Board, at that time, addressed the community's concerns and has a policy that they communicated with parents of students in 2022. During the election NO ONE has shared a concern with me about the FZSD policy and NO ONE has asked me to change the FZSD policy.
Constitution: The State of Missouri requires ALL STUDENTS to pass both the United States and Missouri Constitution tests in order to earn a high school diploma. This is NOT optional. These tests are included in the American Government curriculum.
Campus Security: We are a Veteran family and respect our law enforcement and the relationship they have with the schools.
Family First: Each child is unique and learns differently. I support guardians' and parent's decision to homeschool, virtual or trade school, private school, and publicly educate. We share this community and I support and respect each child's unique educational journey.
